What We Do
Throughout the Rotary year, the Rotary Club of Metro Providence participates in various environmental activities, reflecting Rotary's seventh area of focus, Supporting the Environment. We participated in Zap the Blackstone's 50th anniversary cleanup for the Blackston River Watershed, tackling Gano Street in Providence. We removed litter in Providence's India Point Park, as part of the Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA) cleanup project. We collected hundreds of "nips" bottles as part of the Great Nip Pickup Challenge, an effort to collect as many littered nips as possible from around the state in 90 days. And, we picked up litter on Earth Day as part of Highlander Charter School's cleanup event in Providence. As part of Rotary, we are committed to strengthening the conservation and protection of natural resources, advancing ecological sustainability, and fostering harmony between communities and the environment.
With help from friends, family, and community volunteers, the Rotary Club of Metro Providence packaged almost 10,000 meals at Nuestro Mundo Public Charter School through End Hunger NE! The food was distributed to food pantries and other organizations in the Providence area. This project was one of hundred of service projects that took place on May 20 as 12,000 Rotarians from 450 clubs across five states sponsored local service projects in their communities.
With support from Rotary District 7950 and sci-Layne Inc., the Rotary Club of Metro Providence sponsored bilingual education development for staff at Nuestro Mundo Charter School in Providence. Rotary club members also volunteered in the school through tutoring and garden work. Basic education and literacy is one of Rotary's 7 areas of focus.

The Rotary Club of Metro Providence continues to collect new household items to populate Welcome Home Kits that benefit clients of Crossroads Rhode Island. Every year Crossroads helps individuals and families transition from homelessness to stable housing. Welcome Home Kits prepare the clients for their new home, containing essential personal care and household supplies – items that are usually in short supply when Crossroads clients move into their very own place.
